Now that the 2018 AFL season proper is over the Brownlow votes have been cast and are now final. Throughout the season we have worked on our own Brownlow Medal Predictor where we tried to see each AFL game through the umpires eyes and cast our votes in the same 3,2, 1 format. I have used the predictor to find the best bet in each team for the most votes category. Remember these votes are just predictions and the umpires may see the game differently, gamble responsibly.

We have Rory Laird as a clear winner for Adelaide, he had a strong start and finish to the year and we expect him to poll well although he is un-backable at $1.04.

Top 3 Adelaide vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Rory Laird Adelaide 23
Matt Crouch Adelaide 15
Bryce Gibbs Adelaide 14

Adelaide most votes – Rory Laird $1.04 @ BetEasy

Brisbane Lions

Like Rory Laird for Adelaide we have a clear leader at Brisbane in Dayne Beams but the bookies have removed Beams from betting markets which makes Zorko the most likely to claim most votes for Brisbane.

Top 3 Brisbane vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Dayne Beams Brisbane 25
Dayne Zorko Brisbane 8
Stefan Martin Brisbane 5

Brisbane most votes W/O D. Beams – Dayne Zorko $1.30 @ BetEasy

Patrick Cripps was the one shining light at Carlton all year and will easily poll the most votes for the Blues. Like Beams the bookies have removed Cripps from the Carlton betting markets which makes Kade Simpson our pick to take out top votes for the Blues.

Top 3 Carlton vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Patrick Cripps Carlton 21
Kade Simpson Carlton 7
Ed Curnow Carlton 4

Carlton most votes W/O Cripps – Kade Simpson $1.50 @ Ladbrokes

Throughout the year we tried to pick our votes like an umpire would see the game so therefore we have ruckman Brodie Grundy on a lot less votes than most people believe he’ll finish on.

Top 3 Collingwood vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Steele Sidebottom Collingwood 24
Scott Pendlebury Collingwood 14
Adam Treloar Collingwood 10
Brodie Grundy Collingwood 10
Taylor Adams Collingwood 10

Collingwood most votes – Steele Sidebottom $4.33 @ Ladbrokes

The Bombers will have a close finish with both Heppell and Merrett playing great footy from midyear onwards. We had Zach Merrett the clear standout in a few games this season so we think he might lead Essendons votes at nice odds of $3.50.

Top 3 Essendon vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Zach Merrett Essendon 19
Dyson Heppell Essendon 16
Devon Smith Essendon 12

Essendon most votes – Zach Merrett $3.50 at BetEasy

Another close one at Fremantle with Lachie Neale and Nat Fyfe finishing 1 vote apart according to our brownlow predictor. The bookies have Nat Fyfe as a raging favourite for Freo but we didn’t see it that way and like the $5.00 you can snap up for Lachie Neale at Ladbrokes.

Top 3 Fremantle vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Lachie Neale Fremantle 16
Nat Fyfe Fremantle 15
Michael Walters Fremantle 6

Fremantle most votes – Lachie Neale $5.00 @ Ladbrokes

Gary Ablett came down and re-joined Geelong for the 2018 season which paid off in spades with the little master being a solid contributor all season. We have him edging out Patrick Dangerfield as the highest vote getter for the Geelong Cats.

Top 5 Geelong vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Gary Ablett Geelong 19
Patrick Dangerfield Geelong 16
Joel Selwood Geelong 13
Tim Kelly Geelong 13
Tom Hawkins Geelong 10

Geelong most votes – Gary Ablett $5.00 @ BetEasy

Gold Coast

A bit of a lottery this one with the Gold Coast Suns being so pathetic all year but we think Brayden Fiorini or David Swallow are worth a bet at $7.00 and $5.50 respectively.

Top 5 Gold Coast vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Brayden Fiorini Gold Coast 4
David Swallow Gold Coast 4
Jarrod Witts Gold Coast 3
Jarryd Lyons Gold Coast 3
Aaron Young Gold Coast 2

Gold Coast most votes – Brayden Fiorini $7.00 or David Swallow $5.50 @ Ladbrokes

Lachie Whitfield played some standout games this season but Stephen Coniglio put together his best season of his career and was more consistent throughout which should see him get the win in this category.

Top 3 GWS vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Stephen Coniglio GWS 20
Lachie Whitfield GWS 16
Josh Kelly GWS 15

GWS most votes – Stephen Coniglio $2.25 @ Neds

Another clear winner in Tom Mitchell here but the bookies have taken him out of this market which leaves Jaegar O’Meara as our best bet for Hawthorns vote leader.

Top 3 Hawthorn vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Tom Mitchell Hawthorn 37
Jaegar O’Meara Hawthorn 12
Liam Shiels Hawthorn 8

Hawthorn most votes W/O T. Mitchell – Jaegar O’Meara $3.00 @ Ladbrokes

Like what we did with Brodie Grundy at Collingwood we have given Max Gawn less votes than most people predict he’ll receive due to umpires neglecting ruckmen in the past. Therefore we have Clayton Oliver on top for the Dees.

Top 4 Melbourne vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Clayton Oliver Melbourne 23
Angus Brayshaw Melbourne 19
Max Gawn Melbourne 13
Jesse Hogan Melbourne 10

Melbourne most votes – Clayton Oliver $2.65 @ BetEasy

North Melbourne

Shaun Higgins is a clear and un-backable favourite at North Melbourne paying $1.20 at Ladbrokes which we think is far too short and Ben Cunnington will go close to beating him. Leave this one alone.

Top 3 North Melbourne vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Shaun Higgins North Melbourne 12
Ben Cunnington North Melbourne 10
Ben Brown North Melbourne 8

North Melbourne most votes – Shaun Higgins $1.20 at Ladbrokes

Port Adelaide

The kingpunters brownlow predictor has Ollie Wines leading Port Adelaide’s vote count by 3 votes over Jarred Polec and Robbie Gray. Worth a bet at $2.55.

Top 4 Port Adelaide vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Ollie Wines Port Adelaide 12
Jarred Polec Port Adelaide 9
Robbie Gray Port Adelaide 9
Chad Wingard Port Adelaide 8

Port Adelaide most votes – Ollie Wines $2.55 at BetEasy

We have Dusty by a couple of votes over Kane Lambert who had a standout year. Dustin is paying $1.03 which is clearly un-backable, you might want to take a risk on Kane Lambert who is paying $12’s.

Top 4 Richmond vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Dustin Martin Richmond 21
Kane Lambert Richmond 19
Trent Cotchin Richmond 10
Josh Caddy Richmond 9

Richmond Most Votes – Dustin Martin $1.03 at BetEasy

St Kilda

The Brownlow Predictor has this as a two horse race between Seb Ross and Jack Steven. Seb Ross is worth a punt at $5.00 on BetEasy.

Top 4 St Kilda vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Sebastian Ross St Kilda 9
Jack Steven St Kilda 8
Jack Steele St Kilda 5
Jade Gresham St Kilda 5

St Kilda most votes – Seb Ross $5.00 at BetEasy

Josh Kennedy was a clear standout in what was by their standards a mediocre season for the Sydney Swans.

Top 4 Sydney vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Josh Kennedy Sydney 25
Jake Lloyd Sydney 17
Luke Parker Sydney 12
Lance Franklin Sydney 9

Sydney Most Votes – Josh Kennedy $2.85 at BetEasy

West Coast

Andrew Gaff had clearly his best season of his career racking up disposals in every game he played until he got suspended for a brain fade where he knocked Andrew Brayshaw out. The bookies have Elliott Yeo as favourite for the Eagles but in my opinion Gaff had a more complete season.

Top 3 West Coast vote getters according to our Brownlow Predictor:

Andrew Gaff West Coast 28
Elliot Yeo West Coast 17
Jack Redden West Coast 15

West Coast most votes – Andrew Gaff $2.40 @ BetEasy

Western Bulldogs

Another clear standout for the Bulldogs and Jack Macrae should win this category by a massive amount, un-backable with the bookies at $1.05 though.

Jack Macrae Bulldogs 22
Lachie Hunter Bulldogs 8
Marcus Bontempelli Bulldogs 7

Western Bulldogs most votes – Jack Macrae $1.05 at BetEasy

Most Team Votes Summary – Best Value

The conscious decision to give Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy less votes due to umpires historically not awarding many votes to ruckmen may backfire but it has opened up some great value in the Collingwood and Melbourne markets with Steele Sidebottom and Clayton Oliver representing $4.33 and $2.55 respectively.

Lachie Neale at $5 is great value, he might get pipped by Fyfe but Neale played every game of the year compared to Fyfe who missed 7 matches through suspension and injury.

Josh Kennedy should be a clear leader at Sydney and is currently paying $2.85 at Ladbrokes and we have him 8 votes ahead of the next best Sydney player in Jake Lloyd.

Andrew Gaff at $2.40 is great odds for a player that had his best season of his career and was solid throughout.

Good Luck with your Brownlow punting.
