With the re-shuffle of the Majors in 2019 the PGA Championship is already upon us, we head to Bethpage Black and try to pick the best betting tips for the PGA Championship in 2019.

We recommend betting on the golf at Ladbrokes, see the odds now.

The Golf Course

Bethpage Black is a beast of a course measuring in at 7,468 yards, the rough is thick and the fairways are soft due to a lot of rain leading up to this week. There are 78 bunkers on the course but the main weapon that the golf course uses to defend itself are the thin fairways and thick rough. With the fairways playing soft and not getting as much run this week it will make the fairways play slightly wider than normal. Long and straightish drivers of the golf ball who can back it up with GIR’s are a must this week.

The rain has been coming down hard leading up to this tournament which has made the fairways and greens play very soft. We are due for some nice weather throughout the tournament so the course will firm up leading into the weekend.

The Stats to look for

The PGA Tour Ball Striking stats takes into account Total Driving which is accuracy and length off the tee and combines it with GIR. These three stats are going to be huge this week so I’ve take the top 30 in this stat and highlighted in Blue the players in best form and who are likely to do well in a major.

The Tips

I have chosen my tips based on form, the stats above and form in the 2016 Barclays at Bethpage Black.

Best Bet (Winner Market)

Tiger Woods – $11 @ Ladbrokes – See the market here
Tiger is coming off a win at the Masters and is striking the ball solidly which is evident through the Ball Striking stat on the PGA Tour. Tiger won at Bethpage in the 2002 US Open, one of only 2 majors played at Bethpage Black in history. Tiger is as hungry, if not more than any other player on tour for this major, he knows his time is running out and he wants to achieve his goal of 19 Majors to surpass Jack Nicklaus. He is playing good enough to be in contention on Sunday and if he’s there you know he will be playing to win.

Second Best (Winner Market)

Rory McIlroy – $13.00 @ Ladbrokes – See the market here
After heading into the Masters as the hot favourite and failing Rory will enter the PGA Championship with less pressure on his shoulders and I think he will play better as a result. He’s long off the tee and hits plenty of greens, I expect him to be right in contention on Sunday.

Roughies (Winner Market)

Adam Scott – $34 @ Ladbrokes
When Adam is on he is one of the best ball strikers in the world, he will enjoy the greens being softer and slower than they usually would be as putting is usually his Achilles heel.

Gary Woodland – $41 @ Ladbrokes
Gary Woodland performed well here in 2016 and has been playing well this year, his short game is his biggest issue but if he can live up to the stats and hit the greens in reg he should be around the mark on Sunday.

Paul Casey – $51.00 @ Ladbrokes
Paul has been up and down this year, winning one week, missing the cut the next then finishing 4th. He fits the bill for the stats that we are looking for this week and if he turns up to play he will be amongst the leader and may be able to snag his first major victory.
