After a couple of good games in the Semi Finals last week we move to the Preliminary Finals where the last four teams will battle it out for a spot in the Grand Final. First up Richmond take on the Pies in what will be one of the biggest prelims of recent times, a crowd of close to 100,000 is expected. The second prelim will see Melbourne travel to Perth to take on the West Coast Eagles, they will be looking to win the prelim and make their first grand final since the year 2000. West Coast were last in the Grand Final in 2015 ultimately losing to Hawthorn.

We have excellent weather forecast for both Melbourne and Perth so that shouldn’t play a factor in either match. Like the semis I’ll try to find the best AFL betting tips for the prelim finals.

Richmond V Collingwood

Friday 7:50 – MCG

These two teams have met twice this year, in round 6 the Tigers over ran the Pies who led for the majority of the match to come out 43 point winners. In round 19 this match had a similar outcome to their initial round 6 contest where the Pies where right in the game until the last quarter, from there the Tigers ran away with it ultimately winning by 28 points.

The pies have been the surprise packet of the season are playing a brand of football that holds up in the Finals. Their midfield is elite with Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Treloar and Adams all among the best in the competition. The pies forward line lets them down a little bit with Mason Cox being their main focal point in attack although they have managed to score this year ranking 3rd in goals per game.

There have been rumours of injury and illness at Tiger-land this week with Dusty on limited training with a suspected corky and Astbury being quarantined from the playing group with flu like symptoms. Astbury was pivotal in the round 19 matchup finishing with 21 disposals down back. At the end of the day if Dusty isn’t 100% he’ll more than likely just spend a little more time down forward than normal and he will still be very dangerous.

I see this game going just like the previous two this year, I expect the Pies to hang with them for three quarters but ultimately the Tigers should get the upper hand winning the match in the last quarter.

West Coast V Melbourne

Saturday 3:20 – Optus Stadium

The second prelim sees Melbourne travel to Perth to take on the Eagles who are now close to full strength (Barring Gaff and Naitanui). When Melbourne beat them by 17 points in round 22 the Eagles were without their two power forwards in Darling and Kennedy who are so important to their structure, so i’ll be throwing that match out the window as a form guide.

Jack Viney and James Harmes have been huge for the Demons in the first two finals. Harmes has the most tackles of any Demon in history in a finals series and we’re only two games in. Jack Viney has been excellent after returning from injury, his attack on the ball is second to none and he is leading this team in the right way.

West Coast will be happy to have Kennedy and Darling back in the forward line. Kennedy will also be happy to have a game under his belt because he was looking a little rusty against Collingwood in the first week of the finals. I think the match will be decided by these two players exposing the backline of Melbourne.

The Demons are starting to come of age and this experience in finals will be crucial for their development and will hold them in good stead for years to come but I think their inexperience in finals will catch up to them in this game.

I see West Coast making up for the beating they copped in round 17 and leaving the young Demon outfit to look to next year.
