Lets get into the Round 9 AFL tips and pick some winners for round 9 of the AFL Season.
West Coast V Melbourne
West Coast were solid last week beating the Saints by 18 points, the margin wasn’t a blow out but they were in control the entire game.
The Dees won by 1 point over Gold Coast last week in what was the match of the round, Melbourne played average and showed that they are still having a tough time putting a score on the board.
This match is played in Perth and the Eagles should get the win quite easily.
Match Prediction – West Coast by 24
Collingwood V St Kilda
The Saints are crashing back to reality after winning four of the first 5 games and this is another tough one against last years runner up Collingwood.
The Pies are sitting second on the ladder and have a really solid 5 weeks of footy. They were pushed by Carlton last week who even took the lead with about 5 minutes to go.
I like the line in this match in St Kilda’s favour of 29.5 points, I think the Saints will push the Pies to the end just like Carlton did last week.
Match Prediction – Collingwood by 18
Brisbane V Adelaide
Adelaide were always in control last week against Port Adelaide in the Showdown, they won by 20 points after Port kicked a few junk time goals.
Brisbane are still hanging on to 5th spot on the ladder although they lost last week to the Dogs by 16 points.
The Crows have beaten the Lions 5 times from their past 5 match ups. This includes 3 times at the Gabba.
Adelaide are slight outsiders in this match which I think is crazy and I’ll be taking the Crows h2h for my bet of the round.
Match Prediction – Adelaide by 29
Geelong V Western Bulldogs
Geelong have been on fire this year and sit on top of the ladder with 7 wins from 8 outings.
The Dogs have been up and down with four wins after 8 rounds and they are sitting 10th on the ladder.
The last time the Dogs have beaten Geelong in Geelong was in 2003 and it’s not going to happen this week with the form that the Cats are in.
Match Prediction – Geelong by 65
Betting Tip – Geelong at the line -29.5 – $1.91 @ BetEasy – Click here to see the market
Essendon V Fremantle
The Bombers have lost three on the trot after a tough run of Collingwood and Geelong, then they were upset by the Swans last week.
Freo are another team that have been up and down this year, one week they are beating GWS then the next they are getting beat by the Bulldogs.
This match will be played at Etihad which will favour the Bombers but it looks like it will be a close one and I’ll be taking the Dockers at the line with a 16.5 point buffer.
Match Prediction – Essendon by 5
Nth Melbourne V Sydney
Two of the biggest under performers of the year take each other on at Blundstone Arena in Tasmania. The Kangaroos managed to notch up their second win of the year against the Blues a couple of weeks ago and then put up a valiant effort against the Cats last week.
Sydney peeled themselves off the bottom of the ladder last week in a win against the Bombers where they just clung on by 5 points in the final term.
These two teams play each other sitting 16th and 17th on the ladder but ironically they are both finding form at the same time. In saying that it looks like North have the slight edge and I’ll be taking them between 1-39.
Match Prediction – Nth Melbourne by 18
Port Adelaide V Gold Coast
Gold Coast had the game in the bag last week until Melbourne somehow managed to score 7 points in the final 45 seconds. After winning 3 of their first 4 that is still what they sit on after 8 rounds.
Port Adelaide are a middle fo the rung team and will probably finish the season between 8-10 on the ladder. They have a better team than the Suns although I don’t see a blowout on the cards.
Only twice this year have the Suns been beaten by over 30 points and I don’t think Port will add to that tally so I’ll take the Suns at the line.
Match Prediction – Port Adelaide by 12
Betting Tip – Gold Coast at the line +30.5 – $1.91 @ BetEasy – Click here to see the market
Richmond V Hawthorn
The Tigers have crept up to 6th on the ladder after a horror start to the season with injuries. They’ve won four of their past 5 and look good despite their injuries.
Hawthorn somehow managed to keep the Giants to 38 points last week and ran out 33 point victors. They have been impressive as well but are definitely a rebuilding team with inconsistencies.
This is an interesting contest but I think the Tigers will get the job done and continue to march towards the top 4.
Match Prediction – Richmond by 17
GWS V Carlton
After a poor performance last week GWS will be looking to bounce back at the expense of Carlton.
Carlton surprised everyone last week and nearly pinched the victory against the Pies, only to lose in the final 5 minutes of the game.
The Giants should win, the only problem is choosing how much they win by.
The Blues have managed to hang in there most weeks this year and I think they will compete hard again and go home with another honourable loss.
Match Prediction – GWS by 28

Lock of the week
I think Adelaide are definitely overs in this one.
Geelong haven’t been beaten by the Dogs since 2003 down at the Cattery and a 10 goal blow out could be on the cards.
Long Shot of the week
I’ve picked a 2 point margin bet in favour of the Crows by 29-30 points as my Long Shot of the week.

- St Kilda at the line +29.5
