Magic round last week seemed to be a success. However it will be interesting to see if it is repeated next season. One thing that came out of Magic round was the emergence of three teams. The Roosters, Storm and South Sydney look to be head and shoulders above the rest of the teams this season. Can any other team challenge them that is a big ask.
Let’s get into this weeks matches.
Storm V West Tigers
Melbourne were awesome last week. They responded to Craig Bellamy’s criticism of his players with a 54 point thumping of Parammatta. If truth be told they looked as they could have scored more than 64 points but they eased off.
The Tigers were also impressive last week albeit against a very disappointing Penrith outfit. Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah were outstanding. They will have to back that up this week as they will be up against the two Camerons.
Melbourne have lost Curtis Scott for a number of weeks with a serious foot injury. On the bright side young Ryan Papenhuyzen came in and was sensational.

Panthers V Warriors
There are a host of changes for the Panthers this week. This is not a good sign for me. Melbourne put faith in the players last week and look how they responded. Josh Mansour and Reagan Campbell- Gillard have both been dropped. I am not sure that is good coaching.
The Warriors are unchanged this week after snapping a four match losing streak with a good win over the Dragons last week. Kodi Nikorima and Blake Green will be looking to establish a productive partnership. I believe Brisbane will regret letting Nikorima leave the club. This is a good chance for the duo to put in a good showing.
This will be a close match but I cannot have the Panthers it’s the Warriors for me.

Broncos v Roosters
Brisbane were never troubled by Manly last week and ran out good winners. Having said that manly were badly hit by injuries. Is this the start of a resurgence or is it a false dawn that is the question. We will find out some answers in this match when they take on the premiers. It will be interesting to see how Tom Dearden fares against one of the greats in Cooper Cronk.
The Roosters are travelling beautifully. They had a hard fought win over Canberra last week and Trent Robinson will be glad that his team was challenged and managed to prevail. They are a team with stars on every line although they will be missing inspirational skipper Boyd Cordner.
I believe the Roosters have too much experience and class and will get the job done here.

Titans v Bulldogs
This is a must win game for both of these teams. The Titans were leading 18-10 last week at half time and could not score a point in the second half. They allowed the Sharks to run over the top of them and lost 26-18. This is indicative of their season so far and is not good enough at this level.
Canterbury have made a number of changes this week. Corey Harawira-Naera returns after missing last week for personal reasons. He is a massive inclusion and I can see him and Dylan Napa having big games. Kieran Foran returned last week and looked good. He really needs to take control of this young team and start pulling the strings.
This game should be a close high scoring affair and I am going to select the Bulldogs.

Cowboys V Eels
Paul Green is taking the same approach as Craig Bellamy did last week. He has named an unchanged line up for this match after going down to the Rabbitohs last week. The Cowboys competed well for most of the game but lapses at crucial times are costing them dearly.
The Eels were thumped by Melbourne last week and really need to show something here. They were labelled as soft last week by their coach and that will have stung. Parramatta could bounce back hard.
The Cowboys showed signs of improvement last week even though they lost. Jason Taumalolo has had two games back now and should be ready to fire. If Michael Morgan can expose the Eels defensive deficiencies early in the match I can see them getting the job done. Cowboys for me in a close one.

Raiders V Rabbitohs
Canberra were brave last week. They have a few injuries and only went down by six points to the Roosters. Jordan Rapana misses this game due to injury. That is a big blow on top of the other injury worries they have.
South Sydney’s English contingent will be looking to put one over their countrymen in the Raiders side. Sam Burgess is back to his bets and is an inspirational force in this team. Damian Cook is also in outstanding form and has the most dummy half runs for the season at 83.
I believe the Rabbitohs will be too strong and too talented for a depleted Raiders outfit who will battle manfully.
The Rabbitohs are my best bet for the week.

Dragons v Knights
The Dragons cannot sustain a level of performance for 80 mins. They looked good in the first half last week and dreadful in the second. That will get you nowhere at this level. Paul McGregor is showing faith in his players as they looks to snap a three game losing streak. St George really need to tighten up in the middle of the field, if not they could be in for a long night.
Newcastle are starting to show what people expected form the start of the season. They have too many good players to be languishing in the lower reaches of the ladder. They have moved into ninth spot and will be determined to keep climbing.
This is the type of match that they need to be winning. Their big guns are starting to fire with Kalyn Ponga looking ominous and Mitchell Pearce finding some handy form.
I am selecting the Knights in this one at good odds.

Sharks V Sea Eagles
Cronulla are going for three wins on the trot after defeating Melbourne and coming from behind to defeat the Titans. Paul Gallen was superb last week and will relish the challenge of mixing it with Jake Trbojevic. There are doubts surrounding the fitness of Andrew Fifita and it will be a blow if he cannot take his place in the team. I must mention Josh Dugan who is playing some great football this season.
Manly were well beaten by the Broncos last week. They are sitting in fifth spot on the ladder and will be boosted by the return of Dylan Walker. There is some relief from the injury problems they have been having Taufua and Fonau Blake are welcome addition this week.
I believe that Manly are a real chance in this match and am tipping them to bounce back against the Sharks.
