UFC 236 takes place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta Georgia. The main event sees part 2 of Max Holloway V Dustin Poirier. They first met at UFC 143 way back in 2012 when Poirier managed to submit Holloway with a triangle armbar, they are both different fighters now and this should be a great rematch.
The Co-Main Event is a battle for the interim middleweight title between Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum. This is a great match up and Adesanya never fails to entertain the crowd so I’m looking forward to this one.
I have previewed the co-main and main event and given my tips for the rest of the fights in the summary below.
Kingpunters is the spot for your UFC 236 Betting tips.
Max Holloway Vs Dustin Poirier
Part 2 of this fight takes place in the lightweight division for the interim lightweight title. Dustin Poirier stepped up to lightweight a few fights back but this will be Holloways first time in this weight class. Holloway will not be out of place in lightweight as it is probably his natural weight division, he will also have a 2 inch height advantage and a 2.5 inch reach advantage on Poirier.
Holloway has a record of 20 wins and 3 losses, 12 of those wins have come by way of KO/TKO/SUB.
Poirier’s record is similar although he manages to get the finish a little more often at 24 wins and 5 losses with 19 of those by the way of KO/TKO/SUB.
Both of these fighters records are impressive with some massive scalps for each. On the feet the advantage is in Holloways favour, but only slightly. When this fight goes to ground Poirier has the technical advantage and I believe that’s where he will try to take it in the third and fourth rounds.
The first fight ended in a submission victory for Poirier, these guys are different fighters now but the amount of times a rematch follows the same path as the original fight is uncannny. I’ll be taking Poirier to win here at the nice odds of $2.70.
Tip – Dustin Poirier to win – $2.70 @ Ladbrokes
Precision Prediction – Dustin Poirier Round 3 KO/TKO/SUB
Israel Adesanya V Kelvin Gastelum
Israel Adesanya takes technical striking to a whole new level. He has 16 MMA fights on his record for 16 wins. Before that he plied his trade in kickboxing with a massive 100 fights, this is where he honed his striking to impressive levels.
Kelvin is a state champion wrestler who tends to stay on the feet and trade in his fights. His advantage in this fight will be his wrestling, on the feet he will get picked apart by the quicker Adesanya.
Adesanya should be too clean in this fight, I think the first couple of rounds will take place mainly on the feet and I think Kelvin will be too slow and unable to make clean contact with Adesanya. Gastelum will try to take this fight to ground in the later rounds but by then I believe the fight will be all but over with Adesanya having a points advantage.
Although I think Adesanya will win I don’t think he has the power to put Gastelum away so I’m expecting the fight to go the distance and Adesanya to get the decision win here.
Tip – Fight to go the distance = YES – $2.10 @ Ladbrokes
Precision Prediction – Adesanya by Decision
