UFC 237 takes place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil this week. The Main Event is between Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade for the womens Straweight Title. We also get to see Anderson Silva fight in his home country against Jarrod Cannonier who has recently dropped down to middleweight. Jose Aldo takes on the up and coming Aussie Alexander Volkanovski. Volkanovski is on a massive 16 fight winning streak and if he can get past Aldo his name will be put up as a title contender for Max Holloway.

Rose Namajunas V Jessica Andrade
Jessica Andrade will battle it out against Rose Namajunas for the Womens Straweight Title. Andrade comes in as the favourite in this bout, she has won 6 of her past 7 fights but the one that she lost was agains Joanna Jedrzejczyk who Rose has beaten twice now. Andrade comes in shorter than Rose by 3 inches and also has a 3 inch reach disadvantage which will be quite telling in this fight which will likely stay on the feet for the majority.
Rose Namajunas seems to get underestimated and she is again here because she enters this bout as the underdog. I think she gets under estimated because she simply doesn’t look strong, but in reality she has knock out power, excellent striking and a good ground game. Rose won the belt off Joanna Jedrzejczyk two fights back and has won 6 of 7 fights since 2015. If she brings her A game she should be able to get the win over Andrade.

Anderson Silva V Jared Cannonier
We get to see a legend of the sport fight for the second time on 2019 in Anderson Silva. It’s fair to say Silva isn’t the fighter he was before he broke his leg at UFC 168 against Chris Weidman. He’s lost 5 of his last 6 fights, only beating Derek Brunson at UFC 208 in 2017. In saying this Silva did show in his most recent fight against Israel Adesanya that he’s still got some moves and can still match it with the best. You can’t question his commitment to the sport, he obviously loves to fight. A lesser man would’ve hung up the gloves already.
Jared Cannonier moves down from Light Heavyweight to middleweight, his move comes on the back of 3 losses in his last 5 fights. He couldn’t hang with the Light Heavyweight guys especially when he started to come up against the best. Jarred has more of a brawler attitude in fights which I don’t think that style will go well in this fight, Silva is a slick counter striker and he should get plenty of opportunities.
Even in his old age I think Silva will be too slick for Jared Cannonier and slip his punches whilst landing his own. I don’t see him getting the knock out but a win on points won’t surprise me.

Jose Aldo V Alexander Volkanovski
Jose Aldo reigned over the lightweight division for 5 years until Conor McGregor knocked him out in the first 13 seconds at UFC 194. Since then he has also lost twice to the current title holder Max Holloway. He hasn’t lost it but he isn’t quite the same fighter he has been in the past. He will be fighting in his homeland but his career is definitely on a downward trend. Aldo is a precision striker with excellent leg kicks and excellent defence but it has been shown that he’s losing his chin having been knocked out in 3 of the past 6 fights.
Volkanovski is one of the up and comers in the UFC, he has only one loss in his mma career and is currently on a 16 fight win streak. His record was questionable early on because he was fighting in the AFC against relative nobodies. Since entering the UFC and fighting better fighters there is definitely no question on his ability. Volkanovski has won all 6 fights in the UFC with the most recent being against the highly credentialed Chad Mendes by 2nd round KO. Volkanovski is a ruthless up and comer with excellent striking ability.
With 11 knock outs on Volkanovski’s record it shows he has the KO power to put Aldo to sleep and I believe he has the precision striking to land on the button.
Tip – Alexander Volkanovski to win – $2.10 @ Ladbrokes
